The layout of the Smart Search results seems to got inspired by the results pages of the major search engines (e.g. Google, Bing). Although familiar to most of us, the single column list layout may not fit well under all sort of sites.

YOOtheme Pro simplifies the customization of the Joomla pages, favoring speed, without the need to write a single line of code. We were asked several times, whether the JFilters results can be customized through YOOtheme Pro and we made that possible.

The results page of the Smart search allows us to display some fields (image, category, date, etc.) but not custom fields. As the Joomla's custom fields provide a very flexible way for adding extra properties to our content, showing them to the search results can make the results more meaningful.

Joomla 4.1 brought a new feature into the core. Now you can show images in the search results, just by configuring the Smart Search component appropriately. Do note that the same settings can be found in JFilters as well.

Many times our text includes keywords like custom fields and tags. Ideally we would like to have them as links that return other articles related/assigned to them.

Smart Search is the default search engine in Joomla 4. In this post we are going to customize it’s results page layout, to make it more appealing. The same layout is used by JFilters as well, to show the results.
