Sequential dropdown filtering?

Hi, I'm very impressed with JFilters, and we'll use this with a couple of our clients, but I have a specific question we are trying to solve. We are building an auto part lookup tool that sorts results based on Make > Model > From-To-Years. Our content is organized as:

  • Make is a subcategory of the parent Vehicles category [ex: Vehicles/Audi, Vehicles/BMW, Vehicles/Cadillac...]
  • Model is an article under each Make subcategory [ex: Vehicles/Audi:A4, Vehicles/Audi:A5, Vehicles/Audi:Quattro...]
  • From-To-Year is a custom field assigned to each article

We have a local dev site with the content correctly configured to display in dropdowns, but I can't find anything in the documentation to create chained dependencies between parent and derivative filtered results.

This seems like a capability of JFilter, and many sites used chained dropdown results... am I missing something obvious?

Hi

JFilters checks for dependencies between the filters by default.

Actually after making a selection, it updates the rest of the filters (except the root) to show only compatible values/options.

What maybe is not ideal in your situation, is that this dependency/compatibility check happens in all directions (top and bottom). Maybe in your case would be better to work from top-down only.
