I just bought jFilter Pro and it seems to me to be a great tool to finally be able to search through custom fields.

So i installed the Extenison and i synchronized the filters but i miss two customfields from the type textarea. Is jfilter not working with this Customfieldtype? Have I overlooked something?

Thanks for the purchase.

No you cannot use textarea custom fiels as filters.

From our point of view, makes no much sense to use multi-line texts as filters.

In fact. I builded some Customfields to make the Life of my customers easier. They should be able to enter their content as structured as possible so that the pages appear as consistent as possible. For this I need some fields of type textarea. The actual Joomla! article field remains empty. Unfortunately, Joomla Core-Smartsearch does not find any content that is in custom fields. My idea was to use Jfilter to get around this limitation.

From my understanding you want to use JFilters to advance the search functionality of the Smart Search.
I.e. Render the Smart Search able to search into your custom fields. Is this right?

As wrote in your other ticket, JFilters and Smart Search are 2 distinct components. They can co-operate in the sense that the results of the Smart Search can be filtered by JFilters.

But in essence they do different things. Smart Search performs search and JFilters performs filtering and the one is not changing the way the other works.

Btw. There is a thought from our side, to develop a plugin that allows the Smart Search to lookup in custom fields but there is not a definite decision yet.

Thank you for your explanations. I see more clearly now.

Nevertheless, it is a pity that Joomla! in the current version still does not allow indexing of custom fields. Customfields are so powerful, but if the items aren't found then the search (imo) doesn't make much sense.

It would be very powerfull to have Smartsearch in Combination with JFilters.

There was a pull request in Joomla that was supposed to integrate custom fields in the Smart Search, but for some reasons did not proceed in the core.

That's why we are thinking to solve that in our own way.

Smart Search works with JFilters in the sense that JFilrers can be used to filter the Smart Search results.
