I had setup jFilters on an external test copy of a website. It worked as expected.

I have now installed jFilters on a copy running on an internally hosted (Windows) server.

I followed the setup guide (double checked - I think since 1.13 the "context" option moved), but while the filter module is displayed, and it shows results for each option after a search, when I click on a filter it does nothing.

When looking at the console I see there is an 404 error with the Javascript. I have attached a screenshot.

What am I doing wrong?

Follow up, after more testing.

I noticed that the values of the fields can contain white spaces.

e.g. "gTL Stufe 1", "gTL Stufe 2", etc.

I don't know if this is relevant, just what I have noticed: If I reform the link and open it in a new window, it does not result in a 404 error.

Domain/erkunden/suche/suchfilter/gTL+Stufe+1?q=tiefenlager&view=module&module_id=213&tmpl=component 

page displays a 404 error.

Replacing "+" in the link with "-" it opens a blank page with the filter module box:

Domain/erkunden/suche/suchfilter/gTL-Stufe-1?q=tiefenlager&view=module&module_id=213&tmpl=component

Are these values of my fields with white spaces causing a problem? I hope not as I have many hundreds of pages using these values.

UPDATE: I double checked with the externally hosted test website and it does use white spaces in the field values and works as expected.

I assume that you have AJAX enabled in the filtering module.

For the shake of debugging, please disable ajax and also enable the "System Debug" from the Joomla configuration.
Then check if you are getting any more specific error, after using the filters.

The use of the space is not capable of producing such an error. Using invalid or non-existen filter values can at max return en empty results set.

I checked and Ajax is enabled in the module. Screenshots of configuration attached.

I put error reporting to maximum, but no errors are displayed for my search page. Only the javascript errors as shown in attached screenshot.

I notice that I cannot clear the "preset filters" in the menu setup.

Please read my initial reply again.

You have to disable ajax and use the filters without it, to get any debug message.

Otherwise, get the url seen in the js console as 404 and put it in your browser's address bar.

Also, check each patrt of that url.

1. Remove the filters.

2. Remove the menu item alias

and after these check if the 404 error persists.

I switched off Ajax and put Error Reprting to maximum.

I created a new menu item (as I could not clear filtes) - no filters selected.

I cleared filters in the module.

I tried directly opening the link shown in Javascript (same address as the direct link witout Ajax) and got a 404 error.

What do you mean by "2. Remove the menu item alias"? Where can I remove that?

I am having trouble posting my images :

"File name must only have alphanumeric characters and no spaces."

My file names are: 404_error.jpg, Menu_Item.jpg and Module.jpg. Only the first image was attached to last nessage.

I cannot post them.

If there is something i would give some possibilities, is the setup of your  .htaccess file and the way it treats the url paths.

Seems like it treats the paths as folders, even if those folders do not exist.

Also try to dsiable the "URL Rewriting" from your global configuration and check if the issue is fixed.

p.s. Use only lower case letters without symbols in your attached files.

The test website I am using in-house is running on a Microsoft IIS web server.

Sorry for the delay in supplying feedback.

I have migrated our large test website (Windows IIS) to an online environment (Unix).

I have only tried quickly but the 404 errors are no longer appearing, and filtered lists are shown

I will now setup Jfilter to the original setup (ajax) and give you feedback.
